Felt like the Royal Mail - through wind and rain, neither sleet nor snow shall stay my steps - away we went to Cheshire Oaks; a frightful journey on a motorway blocked perhaps as a result of an accident, but certainly blocked for ages, being sprayed by every passing mammoth lorry in creation. Desperate for a parking space and a wee on arrival, found signs most confusing. we appeared to be on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park for ages before we made a break for freedom and what purported to the the first floor, even though the lift specifically told us it was the second - go figure.
Then we galloped into a cafe hoping for a wee and hot coffee but found ourselves banned from any use of the facilities - not nice in a cafe where you would expect a traveller to find some relief. So off to the "Cheshire Oaks toilets" which turned out to be on the second floor of some office block type place alongside the "Retail Academy"! Utter chaos on stairs as people stampeded up to have a wee and down to get some hot coffee. Not a very inspiring start to the visit.
But we did manage to get Babs a lovely dress in M&S. We were a little puzzled by the description of the description of "Outlet products" and wondered if this particular store is more 'Primark & Spencer'. Still at least three of the dresses Babs tried on looked stunning so what more could anyway ask for? Trekked through most of the other stores which were a little lacklustre - especially Jaeger which I had expected to be thoroughly tasteful and classy but which was instead dull and dreary. Did not see one item I lusted after. The Jacques Vert/Precis outlet on the other hand was chockfull of luscious things.
Fish and chips in Harry Ramsdens was another disappointing experience although the fish and chips were good. All much too reminiscent of Macdonalds...
Got some good cutlery from Oneida at knock-down price and shall certainly return as soon as I can.
Had many laughs despite the cold and lashing rain, especially at the vile pong which flooded the car when the heater was put on in the back of the car...need to track down the source which reminded one forcibly of a dead ferret.

What a fun day
Messing about trying to get blogs sorted. Hmmm. And also trying to organise art group outings, and constitution, etc. But all worth it, because it's such a crazy, lovely group of people who find beauty in the same things, and giddiness and sniggering at the same things, too.
And now that I have finally assembled my Ikea typists' chair - quite easy until a recalcitrant screw misbehaved. probably because it was a self-tapper. But now complete in all its pinkness and comfort - hooray.
Also assembled two new standard lamps but minus bulbs, unfortunately, as left them at daughter's on Thursday night when we had been on a sofa hunt at the local Ikea store. Lots of things to look at, admire, lust after but oh sooooooooooooooooo tiring. Also the meatball dish was a bit like having miniature cannonballs rolling around in my tum. Pass me the mints.
Am looking forward to a trip out with daughter and Babs tomorrow - wedding outfit for Babs (aka mother of the bride) and goodness knows what for me and Kez. Plants maybe?
